Dressing up becomes part of everyday life when you have children. I’m feeling very nostalgic this week as this is the first World Book Day that Pearl won’t be donning a costume and it feels like the end of an era (I know, I know, it’s a hassle getting an outfit together but you’ll miss it when you don’t have to do it anymore, believe me!).
And dressing up is not just for parties and book days either, playing imaginative games and role play is important for development, so having a sword, cape or tiara easily to hand that helps transport your child to another world is definitely a good thing. It’s fine to dress head to toe as a particular character (yes we’re talking about you, Anna and Elsa), but also have a box of props handy to feed your child’s imagination, so they can be anyone they choose (even on a trip to Tesco. It’s so much more fun in a tutu and a cape).
Here are some of my favourite ‘ who are you going to be today?’ props. Click images to view as gallery.
