As soon as you have a baby, you start to accumulate STUFF. It’s surprising how one tiny, immobile person needs so many things. First it’s nappies and what seems like millions of lilliputian clothes, then as your child grows, the toys start to appear. (Don’t even get me started on Lego. I’m sure it multiplies overnight..)
Trying to keep things contained is an ongoing battle. That’s why you need baskets and boxes. And lots of them. Here are my favourites (and your new best friends).
These are great to have lurking in the corner of every room to make clearing up a doddle at the end of the day. Believe me, you’ll often be too tired to do anything but wearily take aim and throw stuff in. They’re a godsend for stashing toys, easy to move around the house and will be useful for years. I bought one from Laura Ashley to store nappies in, seven years later it’s still in use housing Pearl’s ever growing Barbie colony. Leave one at the bottom of the stairs to collect the detritus of everyday life and redistribute the contents when you have time. If space is really tight, look for smaller baskets that can slide out of the way underneath cots or other furniture.
